  • Stop rely on things or they will come back and haunt you

    By Konrad | April 3, 2008

Do you also feel this great disturbance in the Force? If you stop getting spam mails on your old e-mail account, which nevertheless is being used actively, something should be wrong. You cannot even rely on your daily spam. Actually I receive 50 spam mails a day. Where are they stuck? Did just this one server detonated with my e-mail adresse? Is a spam filter active which is falsely shown disabled? So what if I do not get important e-mails concerning my letter of application? You see, something like this gets you bloody paranoid. I should be happy but it is very hard, as a matter of fact, we are still stuck as a creature of habit.

    All the small things

    By Konrad | March 17, 2008

So after I took a short break I am reporting back. As a matter of fact, there are very little things which upset me, atleast I am very convinced of this. However, it is naturally that I am not in the mood for anything, when my computer is out of order. It figures! A half year before buying a complete new system, my 6 year old computer gives up the ghost.

Computer crashes had happened regulary before with an awesome sound in the headphones where you get the wish to smash them down on the ground. One ignores such things until the hardware is totally damaged. Anyway, I brought the computer away for repair. I was hoping it would be the power pack, but unfortunately the mainboard’s capacitors were defect which are puffed out then. So now go and try to get a 478 socket Mainboard with AGP Slot. There are 1 or 2 end-of-range models with PCIe slot and 2 DDR slots, though I needed one with 4. So I had the opportunities to buy a complete new system or upgrade partially. Since I wanted to buy a compelte new system together with my move out I tried Ebay. In fact, the ASUS P4P800 mainboard had a large number of productions back then, so Ebay was full of my mainboard and I could choose one, located in Berlin.

To save money and time, I have driven past and picked it up. I was a little bit confused, when I saw the chipset cooler. It should actually look like this (upper), however it looked like this (lower). The seller performed handicraft on it because his graphic card did not fit. I am afraid I cannot handle such situations well, so I just bought it and went home.

However, luckily everything worked probably. In retrospect it was the cheapest variant, also it would have made more sense to buy a new system. But when moving out of the house of your parents it is like a fresh start, new furtinutre, new decoration etc. and I would dislike the idea to bring my new old computer.

Of course, I was really upset how much I depend on such a small thing, but this is part of life. One aquires certain things in life and expects them to be ready for usage when one needs them. I have devoted myself to the computer and when it is not there it destroys my daily routine. However, in fact everything is on balance again, in this sense: back on track.

    Knut != Berlin

    By Konrad | February 4, 2008

Fortunately our white steak became a big teddy bear, which is with his dirty fur as ugly as the rest of the polar bears. As a matter of fact, the newspapers, which took up the cause of scaring people mentally forever, Bild, B.Z. and Berliner Kurier can concentrate again on the daily idiocy of humans. I just want to use this to clarify a position. This is not Berlin:

    This is Berlin:

    Got heroin?

    By Konrad | February 4, 2008

The Babyshambles concert on 23th January 2008 in Columbiahalle was for my circumstances one of the most hyped music events in Berlin. This was one reason to buy a ticket on Ebay for the long sold out concert. Another reason, was the fact they are really fitting my taste. After all they reached in no time the same position as Arctic Monkeys and Maxïmo Park in my last.fm profile.

As a matter of fact, the center of all attentions was not the band Babyshambles itself, but king of utter scandals Pete Doherty. There was constant unrest between the fans, because it was very questionable if the for drug abuse known star would appear at all. The expectations were set very high and even bigger after the support act Kilians, who shined as German band brightly with their British music, has played. We were not disappointed, but it is not less to expect for someone who is introduced by Carl Orffs Carmina Burana O Fortuna. Already after the first two song it was clear to everyone’s mind: This is an excellent evening. Pete was relative vital, atleast one did not see his drug abuses right on his face. This was maybe also because of his skincare set he got on Christmas Day from Santa. The fans raged and after numerous songs were played, “Fuck Forever” topped it off. However opinions differed on the concert:

    “So, did you like it?”
    “Well, nothing special.”
“What? This was clearly five stars!”

One thought of it as a perfect concert, the others thought of it as an ordinary concert. But perfection is not what Pete Doherty fans are longing for, because the imperfection, his ordinary, casually and careless behavior on stage, characterizes him. In our society everything is planned with the pursuit of perfection, someone like him, with his fuck forever-attitude, being total contrary to this. There is a reason, why so many people see a nihilist in Pete. With this point of view it does not matter what you do or archieve, it just remains the pure pleasure of the moment. So the people stay divided, for some he is “the greatest poet of our time” for the others a pitiful and pathetic existence.

    pathethic

    By Konrad | February 3, 2008

No, pathethic is not the consequence of a spelling misstake. I was simply on the search for an original name for my blog. It ought be some buzz-word. As a matter of fact I could not identify with the most, but then I came across the member names of Anti-Flag. Most of them found their nicknames on simpel words, for instance: Pat Thetic. But neither I was creative enough to invent a name, nor I was pleased with a single word. By accident I noticed that pathetic nearly contains ethic. pathethic ethic means as much as a pitiful moral conception. This was like chalk and cheese, because if I get upset in everyday life, it is about this.

pa·theth·ic [adjective] an artificial word composed of pathetic and ethic, describing someone’s pitiful moral conception

Now there was just the obligatory Google check missing, to see if my neologism is as original as I wish. Most of the hits were as suspected spelling misstakes, excluding one. Of all things it had to be one of Web 2.0’s gems: A profile on deviantART. Anyway, I messaged him to find out from where he got the nickname. Can it be true? The author Naomi Klein has already used this term. But this was no reason to cut and run, as a matter of fact both definitions cover themself at last and to quote pathethic from deviantART:

“It’s hard to be unique these days.”
