    pathethic

    By Konrad | February 3, 2008

No, pathethic is not the consequence of a spelling misstake. I was simply on the search for an original name for my blog. It ought be some buzz-word. As a matter of fact I could not identify with the most, but then I came across the member names of Anti-Flag. Most of them found their nicknames on simpel words, for instance: Pat Thetic. But neither I was creative enough to invent a name, nor I was pleased with a single word. By accident I noticed that pathetic nearly contains ethic. pathethic ethic means as much as a pitiful moral conception. This was like chalk and cheese, because if I get upset in everyday life, it is about this.

pa·theth·ic [adjective] an artificial word composed of pathetic and ethic, describing someone’s pitiful moral conception

Now there was just the obligatory Google check missing, to see if my neologism is as original as I wish. Most of the hits were as suspected spelling misstakes, excluding one. Of all things it had to be one of Web 2.0’s gems: A profile on deviantART. Anyway, I messaged him to find out from where he got the nickname. Can it be true? The author Naomi Klein has already used this term. But this was no reason to cut and run, as a matter of fact both definitions cover themself at last and to quote pathethic from deviantART:

“It’s hard to be unique these days.”
